Qatar Chess Association (QCA) was established in 1985 under the presidency of His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Thani, following a decree from His Highness, the President of the Supreme Council for Youth Welfare. That same year, it joined the International Chess Federation (FIDE), marking its official entry into the global chess community.
In 1988, Mr. Khalifa Mohammed Al-Hitmi was appointed president by royal decree, followed by Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Mudahka, who was elected in 2018 during the association’s General Assembly meeting.

To establish Qatar as a regional and global leader in chess, empowering future generations, nurturing elite talent, and inspiring a vibrant chess culture grounded in innovation, discipline, and strategic thinking.

To promote and develop the sport of chess in Qatar by creating a strong and sustainable foundation for participation and excellence. We strive to enhance technical standards, organise high-level competitions, support the growth of national teams, and foster strategic partnerships locally and internationally, ensuring continuous progress in line with global best practices.
