Great Success for the Katara Chess Championship 2025 with Remarkable Qatari Participation

The Katara Chess Championship 2025 concluded on Friday evening, organized by the Qatar Chess Association in cooperation with the Katara Cultural Village Foundation, and held from March 6 to 14, 2025, with broad participation from elite local and international players.

The championship was conducted using the Swiss system over 9 rounds, and featured intense competition among more than 120 male and female players from various countries, in a highly professional environment that reflected the ongoing cooperation between the Association and Katara in supporting chess and promoting its culture within the Qatari community.

In terms of results, Indian player Albin Sajan won the championship title with 7.5 points, followed by Filipino player Ryan Mendoza in second place, while Indian player Sohail Prashant Chogle secured third place with 7 points.

Regarding Qatari participation, Qatari players Irfan Mohammad Ferdous and Layan Al-Qassabi both stood out with 6 points each, delivering impressive performances that reflect the development of Qatari players and their readiness for upcoming competitions.

The Qatar Chess Association expressed its profound gratitude to Katara for its significant support of the championship, emphasizing that this cooperation strengthens Qatar’s position as a leading hub for hosting major international sporting events and contributes to expanding chess’s presence across all age groups.
