Report on the Qatar Rail Open Chess Championship 2025 – Final Stage, a prestigious event that drew widespread attention and participation.

The Qatar Rail Open Chess Championship – Final Stage was held on 20 July 2025, coinciding with International Chess Day, in a vibrant atmosphere hosted at the Al Bidda Metro Station of Doha Metro. 

The event took place as part of the ongoing partnership between the Qatar Chess Association and Qatar Rail, aimed at promoting chess culture and strengthening its presence within the community.

The championship featured the participation of over 80 male and female players of various ages and skill levels. A total of 16 players qualified for the final stage after a series of preliminary rounds, in addition to 4 players nominated by the Qatar Chess Association to compete in this special event.

The tournament consisted of 9 rounds, utilizing a time control of 3 minutes per player with a 2-second increment per move, which added a fast-paced and exciting character to the competition. The players’ abilities in quick thinking and precise execution under time pressure were clearly showcased throughout the event.

Final Results:

1st Place: Grandmaster Viktor Bologan
2nd Place: Syed Abdul Qader
3rd Place: Zhu Xi

The championship received widespread praise from both participants and spectators, who followed the intense matchups in a festive atmosphere celebrating International Chess Day. 

The exceptional organization reflected the commitment of the Qatar Chess Association and Qatar Rail to supporting community activities and promoting chess culture among all segments of society.

The Association emphasized that such events significantly contribute to strengthening Qatar’s growing chess community, encouraging younger generations to practice the game and develop their skills in a positive and competitive environment.
